Major State Highway 14 Resurfacing in Sterling Begins Monday

March 7, 2014 - Northeastern Colorado/CDOT Region 4 - Work will create smoother ride on West Main Street in Sterling

LOGAN COUNTY — On Monday, March 10, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will begin major work on a resurfacing project in Sterling on West Main Street, also known as State Highway (SH) 14, from mile marker (MM) 234 to MM 236 between Logan County Road 35 and North 9th Avenue. Resurfacing projects help create a smoother ride for motorists, and reduce wear and tear on vehicles to help reduce vehicle maintenance costs.

“In addition to creating a smoother ride on West Main Street, we will be replacing a city water line and updating sidewalks so they meet current ADA standards,” said CDOT Project Engineer Jeff Dollerschell. “These added improvements will help create a safer trip through the corridor for motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians alike.”

Minor work that will also be performed during the project will include minor drainage improvements, median replacements, signal improvements, new street lighting to improve night time visibility, new signage, and striping. A concrete box culvert will be installed at the Pioneer Drain Ditch, which may require heavier project impacts.

Normal working hours will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday. In special cases, these hours may be extended and weekend work may also occur if needed. There will be lane-closures and lane shifts throughout the course of the project and the speed limit will be reduced during working hours to 25 MPH. Wide loads will be restricted on the project. Motorists are encouraged to obey all traffic signs and flaggers, and to drive Slow for the Cone Zone!

Scott Contracting, Inc. is the contractor for this $7.7 million project, which is scheduled for completion in November 2014.
