Winter Shutdown Ahead for Highway 9 Project

November 6, 2013 - Northwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 3 - SUMMIT COUNTY – The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is set to stop work on the State Highway 9 widening project between Agape Church and Coyne Valley Road by Saturday, Nov. 9.

Asphalt paving is expected to be completed this week but lane closures can still be expected at times for construction access while work takes place to winterize the project.

“We met our goal of having two lanes of highway open in each direction before ski season gets underway,” said CDOT Resident Engineer Grant Anderson.  “The traveling public can expect little to no traffic impacts until next spring.”

The project is expected to resume in April 2014, when Highway 9 will again be reduced to a single lane in each direction.  Next year’s construction will be concentrated on completing the north portion of the project, including the Blue River Bridge, asphalt paving, raised concrete medians and completing the southern segment between Tiger Road and Coyne Valley.

Completion of the $8.4 million project is expected in October 2014.
