Rock Work to Stop Traffic in Manitou

October 25, 2013 - Southeastern Colorado/CDOT Region 2 - MANITOU SPRINGS – The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will be conducting rock scaling operations near Cave of the Winds next week, requiring intermittent traffic stops on U.S. 24.

Beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 28 and 29, all traffic on Highway 24 will be stopped for 20 minutes at a time – eastbound at Cave of the Winds Road; westbound at the east Manitou Springs exit.   Drivers can travel through Manitou Springs while traffic is stopped.  Eastbound traffic can use Serpentine Drive to U.S. 24 Business (Manitou Avenue) and travel to the east Manitou Springs exit.  Westbound traffic can exit at the east Manitou Springs exit and go west via Manitou Avenue to Serpentine Drive and back to U.S. 24.

The stops continue until 3 p.m.

CDOT needs to remove some loose rocks sitting above the north slope of Highway 24 near Cave of the Winds.  Traffic stops are required to maintain safe driving conditions for the traveling public.
