CDOT Unveils New Statewide Transportation Plan Website

October 22, 2013 - Statewide Transportation Plan - DENVER - The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has launched a new website in coordination with the development of the 2040 Statewide Transportation Plan which identifies future needs for Colorado’s transportation system and establishes a transportation vision for the state.

The website, http://coloradotransportationmatters.com/, is designed to engage Coloradoans to help shape the future of our transportation system.

“The development of a successful SWP relies heavily on the participation of not only our planning partners across the state, but the general public as well,” said Michelle Scheuerman, CDOT Planning Section Manager. “This website will make it easy for people to share their input so that we can develop a plan that reflects the priorities and needs of all Coloradans.”

The site boasts a range of interactive features designed to answer the three fundamental questions of what the SWP is, why it’s important to Coloradans, and how people throughout the state can get involved in shaping it. Visitors will learn about how the statewide plan serves as a framework for deciding how to invest limited funds in the transportation system, why CDOT is focused on maintaining its existing assets in the short-term while still looking ahead to the next 25 years, and how the public can play a vital role in the plan development process.

Visitors will discover the opportunities and challenges facing Colorado’s transportation system and provide their own perspectives through commenting, uploading photos, or attending in-person meetings. At the same time, users will gain an understanding of the financial practices and organizational policies that CDOT has adopted to stretch resources and meet statewide needs. Visitors to the site may also access a wealth of information on local planning processes, upcoming meetings and events, and geospatial data on the state’s economy, environment, and transportation system that can help inform their active participation in the process.

The website will serve as a central point of contact for CDOT, its planning partners, and the public at large as the plan develops between now and the spring of 2014. Check back often to learn about new developments and provide your input on the direction of the plan as additional interactive multimedia features are added along the way. Your input is critical in developing Colorado’s transportation vision for the future!
