Two SH 82 Intersections to Close Temporarily for Deer Guard Installation

July 1, 2013 - PROJECT UPDATE – NEW RFTA INFO - Northwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 3 - GARFIELD/EAGLE COUNTIES – Colorado Department of Transportation project contractor United Companies / Oldcastle SW Group has requested a permit from Eagle County to close the intersection of JW Drive and SH 82 and the intersection of Valley Road and SH 82.

These closures will enhance safety for project crews and the traveling public during construction of “deer guards” at these intersections. These improvements are part of CDOT’s resurfacing and safety-improvement project on SH 82 between Carbondale and El Jebel. The work is scheduled for completion in October, 2013.

CLOSURE SCHEDULE - It is anticipated that JW Drive would be closed first, for approximately seven days (24/7), beginning Monday, July 8th. Once this phase of work is completed and JW Drive intersection reopened for traffic, Valley Road will be closed for an estimated seven days. During these closures, traffic will be directed to use El Jebel Road and the eastern entrance of Valley Road as an alternate entrance route to SH 82.

REGULAR TRAVEL IMPACTS - Traffic delays and single-lane closures can be expected from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Periods with no traffic impacts will be between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. for up-valley traffic (towards Aspen), and between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. for down-valley traffic.

NEW INFORMATION: RFTA SHUTTLE - RFTA will run a shuttle between Blue Lake and the El Jebel Park & Ride during the closure.  The shuttle will run for the duration of the closure and will cover all connections to and from Up and Down Valley buses at the El Jebel Park & Ride. The shuttle will leave the Badger Rd. West Up Valley stop (Blue Lake end) for El Jebel at  :18 &  :48 past each hour from 4:48 am – 8:48 pm and :48 past each hour from 9:48 pm - 12:48 am.  ALL passengers for UP and DOWN valley must catch this bus on the Up Valley side to make their connection.  The shuttle will return to Blue Lake from the El Jebel Park & Ride after any and all Up & Down Valley connections have been made.  The last shuttle will leave the El Jebel Park & Ride at 2:55 am.
