Intersection Reconstruction to Cause Major Delays at Hampden Avenue/Colorado Boulevard

July 8, 2013 - Denver Metro Area/CDOT Region 1Starting on Sunday, July 7, 2013 and continuing through Friday, July 26, 2013, weather permitting, the Colorado Department of Transportation will reconstruct the Hampden Avenue/Colorado Boulevard intersection.

As a result, motorists can expect various lane closures and turn restrictions 24 hours a day through reconstruction and major delays are expected.
“Since May, we have been conducting some construction activities, but the 20-day period of around the clock work will expedite the completion of the project,” said CDOT Resident Engineer John Hall.  “Instead of impacting traffic for three months, we can complete the work in about 20 days, greatly reducing the overall impacts to the traveling public.”
During the 20-day period, two through lanes of eastbound and westbound Hampden Avenue will remain open during peak hours; however, left turns from Hampden Avenue will be prohibited. Through traffic on Colorado Boulevard will be prohibited, but right turns from northbound and southbound Colorado Boulevard will be permitted.
“We realize the importance of maintaining through traffic on Hampden Avenue and while we will keep the through lanes open during peak hours, major delays are possible,” added Hall. “We still encourage motorists to seek alternate routes.”
Chato’s Concrete, LLC is the contractor for this $1.7 million project that will be complete by the end of August 2013. When complete, the intersection will have an improved driving surface, reducing the wear and tear on vehicles.
