SH 79 and Kiowa-Bennett Corridor Study Alternatives Available for Review

The purpose of this project is to improve regional connectivity, reduce conflict and delay at the SH 79 at-grade crossing of Union Pacific Railroad, and address safety concerns along the major corridors within the study area for existing and future conditions.

Alternatives were developed using input gathered at the first public meeting held in November 2012. Two levels of alternatives screening have been conducted. This evaluation and the associated recommendations will be presented at a public meeting for public review and comment. Public input at this point in the process will help shape the final study recommendations.

The second public meeting will be held on May 16th at the Bennett Community Center, 1100 W. Colfax Avenue, Bennett, Colorado 80102. The meeting will be in an open house format from 5:00 – 7:00 PM. There will be no formal presentation, so guests are welcome to attend any time during the meeting to view exhibits and provide comments to project team members.

Following this meeting, the project team will complete conceptual design refinement, prioritize recommended improvements and document recommendations in a final study report. The final report and study recommendations will be posted on the study’s website this summer. A final study update will be distributed when this information becomes available. Another public meeting is not planned for the study. There will be additional opportunities to provide input on the recommended improvements during future project phases.
