I-70 Resurfacing Work Beginning Monday

April 5, 2013 - Northwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 3 - Work will take place between Eagle and Edwards - EAGLE COUNTY — Beginning Monday, April 8 and lasting through August 2013, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will begin a resurfacing project on Interstate 70 between mile markers (MM) 147 and MM 164 (from Eagle to Edwards).

“This project will benefit the traveling public in several ways,” said Project Manager Bob Yost. “Not only will the immediate benefits be evident with the smoother roadway and drainage improvements, but we will also help extend the life of the highway for years to come.”

More specifically, the project includes approximately 12.5 miles of highway resurfacing in each direction, bridge repairs from Eagle to Wolcott (MM 147 to MM 159.5), guardrail upgrades, installation of additional guardrail, installation of weather sensors, drainage improvements, and repairs to the Wolcott interchange ramps.

Work will take place Mondays through Fridays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. through June 20, with allowance for eastbound commuter traffic from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. daily. Allowances will be made for westbound commuter traffic from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. daily and between 12 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Fridays. Night work may be planned after June 20 but holiday and weekend work will be limited.

No detours are planned at this time, but motorists can expect alternating lanes of traffic during work hours and delays of up to 15 minutes. The speed limit will be reduced to 40 MPH through the work zone and traffic fines will be doubled. CDOT would like to remind motorists to obey all road signs and flaggers, and to drive Slow for the Cone Zone.

The $8.4 million project is contracted through Old Castle United Companies.
