I-70 Twin Tunnels Weekly Traffic Advisory

January 11, 2012 - TRAFFIC ADVISORY - IDAHO SPRINGS – Overnight lane closures are scheduled next week at the Twin Tunnels on Interstate 70 at the east end of Idaho Springs for grouting and rock scaling and drilling work.

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will implement the following closures:

  • Monday, January 14, 9 p.m. through Tuesday, January 15, 5 a.m.
    Eastbound I-70 closed.  Traffic reduced to one lane in each direction through the westbound bore.
  • Tuesday, January 15, 9 p.m. through Wednesday, January 16, 5 a.m.
    Eastbound I-70 closed.  Traffic reduced to one lane in each direction through the westbound bore.
  • Wednesday, January 16, 9 p.m. through Thursday, January 17, 5 a.m.
    Eastbound I-70 closed.  Traffic reduced to one lane in each direction through the westbound bore.
  • Thursday, January 17, 9 p.m. through Friday, January 18, 5 a.m.
    Eastbound I-70 closed.  Traffic reduced to one lane in each direction through the westbound bore.

The speed limit is reduced to 35 mph while the traffic lanes are reduced.

Adding a third lane to eastbound I-70 from east Idaho Springs to the bottom of Floyd Hill is part of CDOT’s strategy at reducing congestion along one of the state’s busiest corridors which, in turn, will improve gas mileage and air quality.
