Surface Improvement Project on Highway 50 in Poncha Springs Area

June 3, 2011 - Southwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 5 - CHAFFEE COUNTY – The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will be chip sealing U.S. 50 on the east side of Monarch Pass next week.

On Tuesday, June 7, and Wednesday, June 8, from 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., flaggers will be alternating traffic at various locations of U.S. 50, beginning about 1 ½ west of Poncha Springs (mile 215) and continuing to west of Maysville (mile 209).  Delays up to 15 minutes should be expected.

Motorists are advised to observe the reduced 40 mph speed limit posted through the project area due to the small, loose rocks prevalent in chip seal resurfacing areas.  Sweepers also will be in operation during work hours and continuing, if necessary, after chip sealing is complete.

Chip sealing is a preventative maintenance operation, extending a highway’s effective surface life three to five years.
