I-70 Traffic Stops Tuesday & Thursday

February 11, 2011 - TRAFFIC ADVISORY - Central Eastern Colorado/CDOT Region 1 - CLEAR CREEK COUNTY – The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will be closing lanes and stopping traffic on Interstate 70 near Georgetown and Idaho Springs next week as part of a rockfall mitigation project, weather permitting.

Traffic will be restricted from 10:30 a.m. until approximately 5 p.m. in the following locations:

  • Monday, February 14 – right lane closed on westbound I-70 from the west end of Idaho Springs to Fall River Road (mile 239-238) and from the Georgetown exit to near Silver Plume (mile 228-226), for rock fall fence installation and guardrail work.
  • Tuesday, February 15 – drivers can expect traffic stops up to 20 minutes on eastbound and westbound I-70 in the Georgetown area.  Westbound traffic will be stopped at the Georgetown Interchange; eastbound traffic at the Silver Plume Interchange.  Right lane closed on westbound     I-70 from the west end of Idaho Springs to Fall River Road.  Both closures for rock scalling.
  • Wednesday, February 16 – right lane closed on westbound I-70 from the west end of Idaho Springs to Fall River Road and from the Georgetown exit to near Silver Plume for rock fall fence installation and guardrail work.
  • Thursday, February 17 – drivers can expect traffic stops up to 20 minutes on westbound I-70 in the Idaho Springs area to allow for safe delivery of materials to areas above the highway.  Westbound traffic will be stopped at the west Idaho Springs Interchange (#239).  In addition, the ramp from Colorado Boulevard in Idaho Springs to westbound I-70 will be closed from 9:30 a.m. until work is finished for the day.  Local traffic can use Stanley Road to access westbound I-70 at Downieville.
