Bridge Work to Require Various Full Closures Near C-470 and Santa Fe Drive Tonight and Tomorrow Night

February 14, 2011 - Denver Metro Colorado/CDOT Region 6 - DOUGLAS COUNTY— This week, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will conduct various bridge construction activities at the C-470/Santa Fe Drive interchange.

Crews set the pedestrian/bicycle bridge over Erickson Boulevard today and will install girders for the vehicle bridge over Erickson Boulevard tonight.  Work on the flyover bridge from southbound Santa Fe Drive to eastbound C-470 will also take place on Tuesday night.

“This work has been postponed for nearly two weeks due to weather, but we finally have an opportunity to get the work done,” said CDOT Project Engineer Scott Smith.  “Motorists can expect various lane closures early this week while we complete the work.”

To complete the bridge work, the following closures will be in place tonight, February 14th and Tuesday, February 15th.

February, 14th:

  • Erickson Boulevard between County Line Road and Plaza Drive: Currently, all lanes of northbound and southbound Erickson Boulevard are closed for bridge work until 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday.  Detour: Motorists can take County Line Road or Plaza Drive to Lucent Boulevard.
  • Santa Fe Drive to Eastbound C-470: The ramp from Santa Fe Drive to eastbound C-470 will be completely closed from 8:30 p.m. tonight until 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday.  Detour: Motorists can take County Line Road or Town Center Drive to Lucent Boulevard.
  • Eastbound C-470 between Santa Fe Drive and Erickson Boulevard: One lane of eastbound C-470 will be closed from 9 p.m. tonight until 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

February, 15th:

  • Eastbound C-470 at Santa Fe Drive: All lanes of eastbound C-470 will be closed from 9 p.m. on Tuesday until 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday.  Detour: Motorists will be detoured via the on and off-ramps at Santa Fe Drive.
  • Westbound C-470 between Erickson Boulevard and Santa Fe Drive: One lane of westbound C-470 will be closed from 8 p.m. on Tuesday to 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

Delays are expected and alternate routes are advised.  CDOT would like to remind motorists to plan ahead, obey all construction signs and flaggers and to “Slow for the Cone Zone.” Fines for most infractions that occur in the work zone will be doubled.

The work is part of a safety and mobility improvement project that constructs a flyover ramp from southbound Santa Fe Drive (US 85) to eastbound C-470.  In addition, the project will construct a new bridge over Erickson Boulevard as well as a bicycle/pedestrian bridge over Erickson Boulevard.  The bicycle/pedestrian trail will also be reconstructed.

The $26.7 million project is partially funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) as well as CDOT and Douglas County.  Edward Kraemer and Sons, Inc. is the contractor for this project scheduled to be complete by January 2012.
